Disaster!!!! Our annual Charity Race Day scheduled for Saturday 9 August was rained out in the most awful deluge – the races were abandoned and the luncheon cancelled. With all the hard work of the committee and the ATC – we were back to the drawing board! Can we choose another date? will booked patrons attend again? what do we do with cancellations etc, etc the questions were endless!
Against all odds! On the new date of Saturday 6 September, the numbers were filled (almost to the same capacity), the ATC was ready with the luncheon, the sun was shining, the horses were running, the committee had worked their magic once again. The room looked spectacular, and all our guests were in the mood for a wonderful day. Our signature Race Day was a fabulous success!
Judging by all the photos taken by Justin, I think we all had a fun day.
Maureen welcomed our MC Mr John Gatfield OAM, Dr Grace Wong from the CPU our supporters and guests. Maureen acknowledged the 67 years of Cornucopia’s fundraising, and the day began!
Neil Grigg chose the best dressed Lady and Gentleman. John Gatfield announced the winner of the Penfolds Grange and ran through the Auction, Silent Auction and Prizes. The ATC provided A beautiful lunch, with great service provided throughout the day. The horse racing continued.
Following lunch John Gatfield introduced our guest speaker Dr Grace Wong from Westmead Child Protection unit who delivered a very heartfelt speech on the work undertaken by their organisation and how our fundraising for the CPU has enabled additional ongoing services to be provided.
Maureen introduced our long standing auctioneer Ryan Clifton and the spirited bidding began. Silent auctions and raffle prizes followed.
At the end of a lovely day Maureen thanked all for coming and supporting the 2025 Charity Race Day, thanking John Gatfield, Dr Grace Wong, sponsors and committee.
