Bernadette Walsh – Clinical Coordinator at SCH Randwick. Bernadette has worked in the child protection space in Australia for over 24 years.
Bernadette expressed her thanks and appreciation for the work undertaken by Cornucopia over the many years of help and support of the various Child Protection Units. He beautiful speech pulled at our heartstrings.
“Our Child Protection Unit at Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick sees children, young people, from 0-16 years of age and their families who have been the victim of violence abuse and neglect, be that physical, sexual assault or neglect. We offer well-being medicals for victims of sexual assault that fall outside the forensic timeframe. We also include the whole family. We also offer online and in person groups for parents of children who have been sexually assaulted. We provide Education and training in Child protection across both Westmead and Randwick Children’s hospitals. We have an intake system every day from 0830 – 1700 and we then provide a 24 hour response to all child protection queries across SESLHD. Sexual assault in children can happen to children from all walks of life. Sexual assault can happen to both boys and girls and is more commonly by someone that they/family will know. Although stranger sexual assault can also occur.”
