Saturday 25 May 2019
Our Race Day in the Champagne Bar at the Australian Turf Club, Royal Randwick was a great success and enjoyed by all our guests. Many thanks once again to all our sponsors for their continuing support.
Mr Richard Davey presided as our MC who ran the day well coordinating all aspects of the day.
We were honoured to have Dr Suzanne Packer AM as our Guest Speaker. Dr Packer, Paediatrician, was awarded the Senior Australian of the Year for 2019, recognising a lifetime of advocacy for the rights of children with a focus on working with victims of child abuse. Our guests were more than interested in her work.
Saturday 25 May was a unique occasion. Our much loved President, Mrs Dorothy Ryan OAM announced her retirement from the Cornucopia Committee. Dorothy has been a member of the Committee for thirty years holding a number of positions and was elected President of the Cornucopia Committee in 2001. Since then the Cornucopia Committee has donated substantially to assist child protection units in the prevention and treatment of child abuse. Dorothy will shortly be moving to Perth to begin a new phase of her life enjoying her family which includes her daughter and grandchildren. We all wish her a fond farewell and every happiness. Dorothy will be dearly missed.
Following Dorothy’s announcement, Robyn Lamb, Co-Head of the Child Protection Unit at Westmead Children’s Hospital paid a wonderful tribute to Dorothy and the Cornucopia Committee, with sincere thanks for the committee’s contributions over many years.
We also like to give a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Linda Hurley our former patron. Mrs Hurley has enjoyed and supported many of our functions in her time as our patron with her enthusiasm, personality and generosity to the committee. We wish her well as Mrs Hurley and her husband, His Excellency, Mr David Hurley will soon take up the position of Governor General.
