Following an extremely challenging year for all, during which we were only able to hold two functions, We received an unexpected surprise in an invitation from one of our supporters David Herlihy to hold a Christmas Lunch at the prestigious Australian Club in Macquarie Street.
After discussing the offer, several of the Committee visited the venue with David to meet the function co-ordinator and work out the details. Numbers were limited to 80, a delicious Christmas lunch was decided on, De Bortoli Wines again donated the wine, and an opportunity to create a truly Christmas atmosphere for our guests was realised.
Our guests were welcomed formally by courteous staff who offered a welcome drink on arrival and entertained by a quartet of saxophonists, “The Capulus Four”, from the Conservatorium of Music. This was just the tonic that both our guests and the Committee needed after such a difficult year.
Our President, Maureen Thornett, welcomed our guests and introduced Rachel Wolfe, the newly appointed manager of Parvan Services, from the Royal North Shore Hospital, who spoke of the changes they are undertaking in the field of Child Abuse. We were delighted to be able to present cheques to the representatives of The Royal Hospital for Women, Royal North Shore, Sydney Children’s Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital with the results of two years of disrupted fundraising.
We then conducted a successful Auction and Raffle. Many thanks to Auctioneer Ryan Clifton.
Maureen warmly thanked staff, the committee, and all who had contributed to making the day such a success and wishing all a Merry Christmas and a better year in 2022.
