Our Signature Race Day at Royal Randwick came around quickly again. We experienced another difficult year for fundraising, events and hospitality, however, the historic Champagne Bar with its view of live racing from every table, looked magnificent.
Our President, Maureen Thornett, warmly welcomed our guests and thanked our supporters.
Mr John Gatfield presided as our MC once again. He brings his extensive background in racing, known as an owner and breeder and foundation presenter on Sky News. He has also His two published books comprising collections of WW1 and WW11 stories and he is currently completing a book on the history of the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway at Concord with which he has been closely associated since its commencement in 1996. John then went on to undertake the task of Auctioneer, in Ryan Cliftons absence overseas. Wonderful prizes were auctioned, others in a silent auction and some lovely raffle prizes kept out guests busy. All beautifully displayed by our hardworking committee.
In the spirit of racing, Phantom Race Calls by Don Harley of Sky Racing entertained us. Prizes were then presented to our elegant best dressed lady and gentleman. A delicious lunch was served by the attentive staff of the ATC.
Representing the Child Protection Unit Westmead, Robyn Lamb, Co-Head, gave a brief talk around the current programs in place @ CPU Westmead for the treatment and prevention of Child Abuse. This tertiary child protection service provides forensic assessments and treatment for some of the most severely abuse children and families with multiple risk factors and complex multifaceted problems including violence, substance abuse, mental health problems and criminal issues. She has 30 years clinical and management experience in the field of child protection in health setting.
We were pleased with the results and believe a good day was had by all.
